Neerja Bhanot was a 22-year-old Indian flight attendant working on Pan Am Flight 73 when it was hijacked by terrorists during a layover in 1986. The terrorists quickly executed an Indian-American passenger and threw his body out of the plane.  They then instructed Bhanot to collect all the passports of the passengers onboard so they could properly identify other Americans.  Bhanot instead hid the passports of the 43 other Americans onboard, hiding some under seats and throwing some others in the trash. After 17 hours of holding the plane hostage, the terrorists started to set off explosives and opened fire. Bhanot managed to open the airplane doors and instead of fleeing and saving her own life, she started to guide the other passengers off the plane.  She was shot in the head while shielding three American children from a hail of bullets. Out of the 44 Americans onboard, 42 were saved. A 7-year-old child that Bhanot helped protect went on to become a captain of a major...

This super-sexed frog isn’t what you think.

Image
This super-sexed frog isn’t what you think. In news that may reassure you or, if you’re a frog perv, disappoint, it isn’t actually swimming round making frog spawn with a gigantically disproportionate dick. Photos of the amphibious tripod went viral after Facebook user Keith Leech uploaded them with the caption ‘what the frog’. Yeah, seriously. What the frog? Is that thing..a mutant sex frog sent to take our women? Thankfully, the answer is no. Frogs don’t actually have penises, and that ‘third leg’ (wink wink) is actually exactly that: a third leg. Brad Esposito, a reporter for Buzzfeed, calmed our fears when he spoke to Gary Marantelli from the Australian Amphibian Research Centre.

The Worst Act Of Cowardice In History

Image
The Worst Act Of Cowardice In History. This is one of the strongest images I've ever seen. All those people you see inside the hole are about to be vilely executed. They were part of the million people killed during the communist genocide in Indonesia in 1965. Little is said about this genocide, perhaps because it did not take place in a first-world country, but it was one of the worst massacres in the entire history of humanity. A photo from the past, which reminds us of the massacres that have taken place and will continue to take place.

A man guards his family from cannibals during the Madras famine in India, 1877.  Also known as the Great Famine of 1876-1878.  The Great Famine of 1876-1878 was a period of widespread food shortages and famine that affected much of India.  The famine is estimated to have resulted in the deaths of around 5.5 million people, mostly due to starvation and disease.  It was caused by a combination of factors, including drought, infestations of locusts, and poor government policies.  The famine led to widespread poverty and social upheaval, and it is considered one of the worst humanitarian disasters in India's history. This is the oldest existing Egyptian mummy. It is over 5500 years old. The mummy, known as ′′Ginger, is from a young man who died at age 19 (as Tutankhamun) from a knife in the back. Interestingly, on his right arm you can see a tattoo of a bull - this animal was represented as a symbol of power and virility in Egypt - being the oldest known figurative tattoo in the world. It can be visited at the British Museum, where it has been exhibited for over 100 years.

She was once married to former president of Mozambique, late Samora Machel between 1975 to 1986 before he died in a plane crash . Zamora was then married to the legendary former president of South Africa. Nelson Mandela between 1998 to 2013 when he died because of illness. Mugshot of John Wojtowicz who famously tried to rob a bank in 1972 to pay for his wife Eden’s gender reassignment surgery–HISTORY

Image
Mugshot of John Wojtowicz who famously tried to rob a bank in 1972 to pay for his wife Eden’s gender reassignment surgery. Wojtowicz had based his plans on the movie, "The Godfather" (1972) which he had watched earlier that day. His robbery attempt failed and he was arrested and sentenced to 20 years in prison of which he served five.  His story was later turned into the movie "Dog Day Afternoon" (1975) starring Al Pacino and John Cazale, both of whom, interestingly enough, had starred in "The Godfather". For the rights to his story, Wojtowicz was paid $7,500, which he gave to Eden. Using the money from the movie, Liz was able to pay for her sex change.  After her sex change, she married someone else before dying of AIDS-related pneumonia in 1987. John attended her funeral and delivered a eulogy.

YIKES !!!    A 22,000 foot free-fall with no parachute !! Alan Eugene Magee (January 13, 1919 – December 20, 2003) was an American airman during World War II who survived a 22,000-foot (6,700 m) fall from his damaged B-17 Flying Fortress.  He was featured in the 1981 Smithsonian Magazine as one of the 10 most amazing survival stories of World War II.  ALAN'S  B-17 bomber plane was hit and began to spin out of control in 1943.  Alan fell out of the plane and was falling for over four miles without a parachute.  He ended up crashing through the glass roof of a nearby railroad station and completely survived the accident with absolutely minimal injuries.  Alan eventually lived to the age of eighty-four years old.

Iran 🇮🇷 before the Islamic Regime. Women had the freedom and option to wear a hijab. It was not forced! – HISTORY

Image
Iran 🇮🇷 before the Islamic Regime. Women had the freedom and option to wear a hijab. It was not forced!  Other facts about the terrible things the Islamic Regime in Iran 🇮🇷 is proud of:  The Islamic Regime lowered the age of marriage for women from 18 to 13 (in 1979) then to nine (in 1982). 1. A married woman cannot leave the country without her husband permission.  2. Women are not allowed to watch men play sports at stadiums.  3. Single women cant check into a hotel.  4. A man can marry up to four women at one time; women can only marry one husband. A woman needs a male guardian’s consent — either from her father or paternal grandfather—to marry. 5. Muslim women cannot marry non-Muslim men, while Muslim men can marry Jews, Christians or Zoroastrians.  6. Women can only get a divorce in a court, while a man can get a divorce simply by declaring it verbally—and not even necessarily in her presence.  7. The Islamic Republic mandated wearing hea...

Catholic, which meant that they could not be buried in the same graveyard.

Image
Together forever, 1880- Seen here are two graves in Roermond, Netherlands.  The graves are in two different graveyards. This is because the husband, Jacob Wernerus Constantinus van Gorcum was a Protestant, and the wife, Lady Josephina Carolina Petronella Hubertina van Aefferden was a Catholic, which meant that they could not be buried in the same graveyard.  The couple got married in 1842, when Jacob was 33 and Josephina was 22. The couple were married for 38 years.  When Jacob died in 1880, he was buried against the wall. When Josephina died in 1888, she requested not to be buried in her family tomb, but against the same wall as her husband. Their custom headstones say it all.  Written and shared by @revivedhistory - an independent history page.  Photographer: unknown Source: Strange Places

The first modern flushable toilet was invented in 1596 by Sir John Harrington who installed one for his godmother, Elizabeth I. Occasionally, some brave knights would conduct sneak attacks by entering the castle via the shaft connected to the garderobe.  Throughout history, there have been a number of famous people who died on the toilet. Several of them were stabbed from below while in the process of defecating. These people include King Edmund II of England (30 November 1016), Jaromír Duke of Bohemia (4 November 1035), Godfrey IV Duke of Lower Lorraine (circa. 26-27 February 1076), Wenceslaus III of Bohemia (4 August 1306) and Uesugi Kenshin (19 April 1578).

Dr Zbigniew Religa completes the first-ever heart transplant in Poland, 1987 - History

Image
Dr Zbigniew Religa completes the first-ever heart transplant in Poland, 1987 - The surgery took 23 hours to complete.  Dr Religa is looking at the vitals monitor, and at the right of the picture, you can see his assistant on the floor in the corner asleep due the procedure being so exhausting.  The procedure was considered to be near impossible at the time, but they went ahead with it anyway against medical odds. The difficulty of the surgery can be seen with the mess and the number of tubes around the patient.  The Polish health system at the time was considered to be one of the worst in Europe at the time so this was a massive achievement in medical history. The name of the patient was Tadeusz Żytkiewicz, who passed away 30 years later in 2017. He lived longer than Dr Religa, who died in 2009 due to lung cancer because he was a very heavy smoker. This picture has been voted to be 100 of the most important pictures in history by National Geographic. Żytkiewicz is seen ...

George Stinney Jr. was the youngest person sentenced to death in the United States–HISTORY

Image
One of the saddest chapters in history. George Stinney Jr. was the youngest person sentenced to death in the United States. He was only 14 when he was executed by electric chair in 1944. During his trial, until the day of his execution, he always carried a Bible in his hands, claiming for innocence. He was accused of killing two white girls, Betty of 11-years-old and Mary of 7, the bodies were found near the house where the boy resided with his parents. At that time, all the jurors were white. The trial lasted only 2 hours and the sentence was handed down 10 minutes later. The boy’s parents were not allowed in the court room, and was subsequently expelled from that city after the trial. Before the execution, George spent 81 days in prison without being able to see his parents, he was held in solitary 80 miles from the city, he was held alone without anybody to talk to. He was heard alone without the presence of his parents or a lawyer. He was electrocuted with 5,380 volts in the he...

A nurse writes down the last words of a dying soldier, 1917–HISTORY

Image
A nurse writes down the last words of a dying soldier, 1917 Seen here is a nurse writing down the last words of a British soldier during World War I. WWI lasted 4 years from 1914 - 1918, with many historians agreeing that 1917 was the worst year of the war.  Nurses played a vital role during the war, as they helped troops recover from their injuries and helped them to get back to the battlefield. Nurses also comforted mortally wounded soldiers. Some soldiers suffered from different psychological disorders due to their time being exposed to a combat zone, including anxiety disorders, depression and battle fatigue, which is now known as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, which was a condition that was not acknowledged at the time.  Before World War II, WWI was known as "The Great War". It is infamous for its brutal and almost eerie nature. The war is also known for its primitive and basic technology, which led to much of the combat being hand to hand and up-close.  World...

Niagra falls has frozen a few times in History…

Image
Niagra falls has frozen a few times in History…  Niagara Falls is a group of three waterfalls that are located on the Niagara River, which runs between the state of New York in the United States and the province of Ontario in Canada.  The falls are composed of the Horseshoe Falls, the American Falls, and the Bridal Veil Falls. The Horseshoe Falls are located mostly on the Canadian side of the border, while the American Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls are located entirely on the American side, separated by Goat Island and Luna Island, respectively.  These falls were formed by glacial activity about 10,000 years ago, and the international border between the US and Canada runs through the Horseshoe Falls. In cold weather, the falls can freeze over, creating ice formations along the banks of the river and falls.  This happened in 1811, 912, when Niagara Falls saw record low temperatures and the longest stretch of below-zero weather in a single winter, causing the...

Power and beauty, 2014 In 2014–HISTORY

Image
Power and beauty, 2014 In 2014, a city in Iran called Isfahan was the location of a number of brutal and horrific acid attacks against a number of women.  An acid attack is a form of physical violence. It involves a person throwing acid on a victim, usually targeting their face in order to deliberately cause disfiguration to the body. Acid attacks have primarily seen a rise in the Middle East / India in the last few years. Cases usually involve males attacking ex lovers.  Isfahan saw at least 8 acid attacks in 2014. It is speculated that 2 males on a motorbike are to blame. They covered their faces and have never been identified for their crimes.  It is debated as to what the motivation behind the attacks was. Some Iranians speculate that it had to do with the progression of women in Iran, as many of the women targeted were driving cars or were not wearing traditional Islamic attire. Other theories about the attackers range suggest that they were radical Islamic extr...

The Most Deadly School Shooting Of All Time–HISTORY

Image
The Most Deadly School Shooting Of All Time Students at Columbine high school pose for their year book picture, unknowing to them, that the two students in the top left pointing with finger guns would go onto shoot up their school just 2 weeks later, 1999 A sinister picture with very sinister foreshadowing. Arguably the most deadly school shooting of all time, Columbine Highschool in Littleton Colorado, would become infamous in history as two students, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold (two students wearing sunglasses), would carry out an attack on the school on April 20th 1999, that would leave 15 people dead.  The shooting had 15 casualties overall with 12 students and a teacher dying as a result of the attack and the shooters themselves committing suicide. Columbine, while not the most deadly of school shootings in terms of deaths, has gained a cult like following by some due to a fascination or obsession with the massacre.  These fascinations have resulted in many scho...

The lost girl, 1874 Blanche Monnier was a Parisian socialite who was known for her beauty–HISTORY

Image
The lost girl, 1874 Blanche Monnier was a Parisian socialite who was known for her beauty.  In France, she is referred to as "La Séquestrée de Poitiers" which means "The Confined Woman of Poitiers". The reason as to why she got this title is tragic, and it all began with a love story that never had a happy ending. Monnier was from a wealthy and respected family from Poitiers. When she was 25, she fell in deeply in love with a "penniless lawyer". This upset her mother, Louise Monnier, who wanted Blanche to marry a man of wealth and notoriety. However, Blanche refused to give up on her lover, so her mother trapped her in a room upstairs in their mansion and padlocked her to a bed. Blanche would remain on this bed for the next 26 years. During her time in this room, Louise and Blache's brother, Marcel, would pretend that she had ran off and disappeared. The family had a good reputation, as they donated to charities, and were considered to be intellige...

The Mother As a Creator by Annie Wang.

Image
The Mother As a Creator by Annie Wang.  She started a 17-year project before her son was born, documenting her child growing up through a series of progressive photographs, Taiwan, 2001. As the series progresses, we see a child grow from an unborn baby to a fully grown young man in just a few clicks. The foreground is littered with objects that provide a glimpse into the mother and son’s wider lives. Her son discovers language, music, drawing, eventually leaving home to find his own path in life like his mother before him. Annie recalls, “I have explored the creativity of motherhood which enriches my art, I couldn’t have imagined this at the beginning of doing the project.” See more photos below;

This picture here shows a former African American slave called Gordon or "Whipped Peter"–HISTORY

Image
This picture here shows a former African American slave called Gordon or "Whipped Peter" Gordon, the man who never gave up on freedom, 1863 - This picture here shows a former African American slave called Gordon or "Whipped Peter" and the extent of the brutal whippings he received during his time as a slave.  The picture is known as "The Scourged Back" and it became one of the most important and recognisable pieces of Union material during the American civil war. It exposed the physical injuries slaves often received while being held prisoners. It inspired the populations of the Union in the civil war to continue the fight, and to aim to end slavery, which had become a stain on American society.  Gordon escaped John and Bridget Lyons cotton plantation in Louisiana in 1860. The plantation had about 40 slaves in total at the time of Gordon's run for freedom. He was chased after by bloodhounds but confused them by rubbing his body with onions that h...
